Cookie Notice

How Gear After Hours uses a local privacy preference, and what Cloudflare security services may store in your browser.

Published and last updated October 19, 2026

A minimal setup

Gear After Hours does not use publisher advertising cookies, optional analytics cookies, marketing pixels, or cross-site tracking scripts. You can read articles, browse categories, and search without a reader account. The privacy notice lets you remember essential-only settings; no optional tracking is enabled.

A cookie is a small value a website can ask a browser to store and send back with relevant requests. Local storage is a separate browser feature that lets a page remember a value on that device. Because both can remember information between visits, this notice explains our use of local storage as well as possible hosting security cookies.

The preference we store

After you explicitly select essential-only settings in the privacy notice, the site saves a localStorage entry called gah-privacy with the value essential. Its purpose is to remember that choice in the same browser. The value contains no name, email address, shopping history, or unique reader identifier. Our application does not send it to a publisher database.

Local storage has no automatic cookie-style expiration set by this site. The preference remains until you clear site data, your browser removes it, or the application changes it in response to your selection. It does not follow you to a different browser or device. If storage is unavailable, you can still read the site, though the notice may appear again.

Cloudflare delivery and security

The site is delivered through Cloudflare. Depending on the security features and traffic conditions in effect, Cloudflare may set cookies needed to manage a security challenge, distinguish automated traffic, or protect availability. For example, cf_clearance can record completion of a security challenge. This does not mean that every Cloudflare cookie is set on every visit.

Cloudflare documents the purpose and conditions of its infrastructure cookies in its cookie reference. Its Privacy Policy describes associated processing. Our local privacy preference does not turn off security operations performed by the hosting service.

External merchants and sources

Opening a retailer, manufacturer, or other external link loads a different website. That destination may set its own cookies or use account and purchase tracking. Our essential-only preference applies to Gear After Hours; it is not a choice communicated to every linked service. Read the destination’s notices and use its controls where available.

Our current merchant links do not include publisher affiliate tracking identifiers. If commission-earning links are introduced, we will identify them and update the relevant disclosures.

Managing stored data

Use Privacy preferences in the footer to reopen the notice. You can also remove this site’s cookies and local storage through your browser’s privacy or site-data settings. Removing the preference can cause the notice to return. Browser controls may offer separate options for blocking third-party cookies, clearing data when the browser closes, or browsing in a private window.

Blocking all cookies or storage can affect security checks or remembered preferences. It does not remove technical records that have already been processed by the hosting service. See our Privacy Policy for the wider description of technical data and available rights. If the site adds optional tracking in the future, this notice and the associated controls should be revised before that tracking is enabled.

Your privacy

This site does not load optional analytics or advertising trackers. Your preference is saved on this device. Hosting security tools may use essential cookies.
